Born in Athens, Manolis Karpathios, hailing from Kalymnos Dodecanese, initially attended classical guitar next to Gerasimos Miliaressis and then studied Byzantine and traditional Greek music in the school of Simon Karas under the guidance of Markos Constantinos.
He studied the kanun in Istanbul next to Halil Karantouman.
He has collaborated with artists and singers of contemporary Greek music concerts, cosmic centers, and in recordings and radio and television programs.
He curated series record publications and traditional Byzantine music.
He teaches at the Research Center Simon Karas in Athens and in the Byzantine Music School of Kykkos in Cyprus. After years of study and experience he has specialized in the music of Istanbul, the words and the contemporary. He also deals with the creation and composing songs and instrumental compositions.
He is founder of the 35members' orchestra "Romana", which aims to present projects and recordings of Romans composers who were active in Istanbul since the years of the Eastern Roman Empire until today.
